Opened as the Washington Statler on January 18, 1943, in the midst of World War II, this hotel was considered America's most modern hotel at the time with its clean architectural lines, simple design, and air conditioning throughout the entire building.
Over the years, the hotel hosted countless politicians, world leaders, and presidents.
With the White House only two blocks away and the Congressional and lobbyists' offices
not much farther, a tradition of political and presidential events at the hotel was
established at the onset from its days as the Statler Hotel.
Today, Capital Hilton is known as a premiere location in Washington, DC. It is listed on
the National Register of Historic Places and a member of the Historic Hotels of America.
